My first thought was "What's an Other?" In this
case it is hardware that does not seem to fit any of the other
categories and are placed here for us to refer to in our presentations,
articles and reference clients. Other products include productivity as
well as consumer goods (meaning, just for fun!)

Amazon Kindle - the new book. Release
November 2007, the Kindle
e-book has reach critical mass and is poised to take off this
fall, just in time for Christmas. Priced at $359, the
Kindle is for reading electronic books. Amazon claims more than
160,000 titles and growing. There are daily newspapers and
periodicals as well as recognized Blogs you can subscribe to.
All of which are electronically downloaded directly to your
Kindle anywhere you can get a cell phone connection.
Bob and his wife are big
Kindle users, both for downloading books but also for listening
to books as the Kindle is completely compatible with audio books
from www.Audible.com.
Kindle can also receive e-mail (limited capacity, not it's
purpose) and be used for searching the web. Research questions
to Amazons NowNow team,
or simply do a Google web search. All included at no additional
costs.
Footnote: A surprising large
number of Universities and Collages are moving to eTextbooks for
students to reduce cost and augment the learning process (i.e.
easier to carry and share.) We have heard many reports of Amazon
developing a student version of Kindle (we will most likely see
two new versions in 2009 sometime.) If interested it is
worth visiting
www.coursesmart.com for a small listing of eTextBooks
available. This trend alone could change the way we read,
research... and think.

 This is NOT a handheld
computer or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC,) it is intended for
reading. With that said you can search, annotate and make notes
while reading a book or article. It is incredibly easy to
read and the font size can be changed to meet your taste - so
all books come in large print! |
|

Footnote: The technology we see coming
into play here will be in PC miniaturization. Devices like the MyVu may become the next display screen while computers are
released the size of an iPod iTouch or similar device. Input?
Well handheld "finger puppet" keyboards will serve this need.
Still a few years away, but coming, hold on.

Myvu Personal
Eyewear was the absolute hit of the Consumer
Electronics Show for 2008 and we expect to see them back in
2009. The company has stolen the limelight in a growing
competitive market. MyVu,
www.myvu.com connects to your iPod, Zune or many other MP4
audio devices and products a clear, sharp, and for one model
3-D, image on the eyeglasses. Roughly the equivalent of a 42"
LCD screen. Bob has had his pair for more than a year (an
original version) and would not part with it. He carries his
80GB iPOD classic with a number of QuickTime movies, visit
www.cucusoftware.com
for information on creating these movies. This way Bob
gets to watch what he wants, when he wants on the plane or in a
hotel room. Just don't wear when driving!
Every Myvu product features SolidOptex®
technology — the Myvu patented optical system offering the
thinnest, lightest and most durable video eyewear available.
Prices start around $199 and go up. Well
worth a look.

Slingbox
- The
Slingbox™ AV allows you to watch and control your favorite TV source from anywhere in the world on your laptop or cell phone. So now you can watch your DVR, digital cable, satellite receiver, or DVD player wherever you see fit. With the Slingbox AV, you’ll never have to be separated from your favorite TV shows and sporting events again.
Randy's son David finally talked him into the strategic importance of having one of these. Why? So he can watch local TV News and other important programming while on the road (which is were we spend most of our time of course.)
Pricing runs between $130 to $230 depending on your needs, but again not too much to spend for a great Christmas present... I mean business tool.
